Put flowers in the box to line the bottom and perch the rings on top of them. The boy can carry it opened or closed, either way doesn't matter...but you might want to secure the rings to the flowers with ribbon so they don't slide around everywhere. They have chipborad & paper mache boxes. You should find something you like there. Paint it whatever color you wish. Stuff something in it to make a foundation & then cover it with a fancy material. Glue or sew your fake rings on top. My DIL didn't want a pillow, either so I made a treasure chest for her brother to carry. Go to your local big-chain craft store. We have purchased the equipment to do these ribbons ourselves and we can tell you from experience, it is not worth it for you to try to buy the equipment to print your own to save a few dollars.
